It is my honest opinion that we as human beings have been created with the innate ability to adapt, to learn and to change. I successfully completed the and am currently registered with the Counsel of Counsellors. Thereafter I had my own Nursery school in Pretoria east for two years, which I enjoyed very much, but closed down after the birth of my daughter in 2007. No matter what the circumstances or situation; we will get there!In 2005, I completed my Honours degree in Psychology at the University of Pretoria. Why is it that a simple request or statement from one, can unleash a tirrany of anger and resentment, feelings of rejection in another? No two people are alike and therefore no two people's experiences of situations or events will be the same. We often think of Trauma Counsellors as people who deal with extremely traumatic events such as death,rape, hi-jackings, suicide and break-ins, and although this is exactly the type of experiences that merits seeing a trauma counsellor, trauma counselling is not at all limited to such drastic events. Seeing as no two people are the same, our experiences may also differ extremely; a relatively harmless car accident, might be brushed off by one as a lucky situation or a close call, whereas someone else might have an extremely difficult time putting the event behind him or her. Being a parent is the most difficult of all jobs given to human kind. In personal counselling to parents, we can focus more directly on specific individual challenges within that specific house hold and more often than not, all you need is a plan based on sound principles and grounded in a loving, nurturing approach. Often conversations/interactions between couples varies from screaming matches to ignoring one another and in most cases one partner is doing the one and the other one the other. It's a constant dance between fighting and withdrawal. As with any self-help book, inspirational DVD or interesting and useful advice, marriage counselling is only as effective as you choose to make it. You will learn new and interesting ways in which to communicate and love each other, but if you don’t choose to apply this knowledge, you are wasting your time and money. If you however, are open minded, want to save your marriage, are willing to learn, to adapt and to change (not who you are, but how you are), marriage counselling can and will benefit you immensely!
