GESS were appointed by ACS to do the Reverse Engineering of the Rail infrastructure and Digital Terrain Models. In some countries this is also known as a right-of-way or an easement. An easement is defined as the right to use the real property of another without possessing it. All the data was combined into an as-is point cloud and utilized to extract the digital terrain models and 3d model all the road furniture, light poles, road markings, breaklines, bridges, culverts and barriers. Two areas were identified to verify whether the current excavated areas matched that of the new designs and to identify any areas of concern. The area were scanned, point clouds classified and geo coordinated using clients setout survey points, The surface were modelled and the 3d design models were referenced into the existing surface model for clash detection and for section extractions. Areas were highlighted where additional excavations are required. The Tunnels were laser scanned, points clouds classified to identify equipment, coal surfaces and other infrastructure. The new designed conveyors and alignments were supplied to GESS to identify clashes with existing surfaces and quantify the required over excavations. 3d laser scanning was carried out of the affected area and GESS then classified ground points, generating a Digital Terrain Model of the surface and identified all the flood water constraints for the flood analysis model. GESS was awarded a project to reverse engineer a link arm that continuous failed during operations. Using Terrestrial laser scanning the facilities were scanned at night to minimize business continuity.
