What you should know about Nstf Awards
The Water Research Commission (WRC)-NSTF Award is launched this year. This Award recognises individuals, teams, partnerships and organisations working towards sustainable water management, knowledge generation and solutions; to be awarded in recognition of demonstrated leadership and impact. Special Annual Theme Award: The NSTF is making a special award this year for a contribution to SET which contributes to or supports Sustainable Tourism for Development, in recognition of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development declared by the United Nations (UN). Nominators are being asked to make a nomination in any of the other categories as appropriate, and where they consider that the contribution can also be considered for this award, they indicate this in the relevant tick box and then complete additional questions at the end of the criteria, which will support the nomination in this category. It was designed and manufactured through additive manufacturing (industrial 3D laser printing) with advanced materials (titanium), a first in SA and possibly the world. The new trophy came about through the expertise of the NSTF membership and collaborative efforts. This Award recognises individuals, teams, partnerships and organisations working towards sustainable water management, and knowledge generation solutions; to be awarded in recognition of demonstrated leadership and impact. Annual Theme Award: The NSTF is making a special award this year for a contribution to SET which contributes to or supports Sustainable Tourism for Development, in recognition of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development declared by the United Nations (UN). A transformed country where SET and innovation contribute to a high quality of life for all who live in SA, where the profile of SET professionals is representative of the population’s profile and where the education system is effective, particularly in terms of performance in SET subjects and promoting innovation. The Awards are one of the ways in which the NSTF strives to realise this. Partnerships for specific awards such as that with the Water Research Commission, GreenMatter, and Eskom lead to recognition of contributions that have the potential to make a positive impact on South Africa, and on the world. Study all this information in advance of submitting a nomination. The criteria for evaluation of nominees are comprehensive to ensure quality and to maintain the prestige of the Awards. The information will be captured in the NSTF database and provides the basis for all further processing and communications relating to the nomination. Thousands of South Africans are also reached through the Awards media partnerships with Business Report and Mail & Guardian, and community radio broadcasts ensuring that not only the winners but also their employers are recognised for their expertise in SET. 2017 is the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development as declared by the United Nations. NSTF-GreenMatter Award for an outstanding contribution to SET and/or innovation in SA towards achieving biodiversity conservation, environmental sustainability and a greener economy. There are four categories for individuals for any field of activity relating to research and its outputs. The NSTF NGO Award is for any non-governmental organisation which has made an outstanding contribution to SET and innovation in South Africa, including technology transfer and education/training activities. These awards are made to teams or individuals in organisations (corporate and small, medium sized enterprises) who have made outstanding contributions to SET through research that has led to an innovation in South Africa. For 2017 this Award is made for a contribution to SET which contributes to or supports Sustainable Tourism for Development. These awards are made to individuals based in South Africa, regardless of nationality or citizenship. The individuals must have demonstrated outstanding leadership in increasing the participation of young researchers or engineers in their chosen SET fields. The Water Research Commission (WRC) has partnered with the NSTF to establish an award that acknowledges outstanding contributions towards sustainable water management, knowledge generation and solutions.
