Project Literacy presently has 2 Executive Directors, viz. the Chief Executive officer and Executive New Business Development and Fundraising, and six external directors who are leaders in their field and who give of their time and expertise for no remuneration. Project Literacy's Members have no voting or decision making rights. They are high profile people, many of whom have had a long association with the organisation, who continue to be passionate about eradicating illiteracy or upgrading poor education in South Africa. They give their time and expertise to the company for no remuneration. Their support of Project Literacy over the years has contributed immeasurably to the company's success. We pride ourselves on accountable and transparent handling of donor, state and client finances and have always achieved a clean financial audit. Our audited financial statements can be made available to persons with valid reasons to view them. We have Adult Education and Training programme approval from Umalusi whereby we were recently granted a full 7-year extension. We’re also accredited to offer Foundational Learning. Project Literacy was established initially as a grassroots literacy project in 1973, and registered as a non profit company in 1986, to address the needs of illiterate and semi-literate adults in South Africa. The company is a leader in learning with expertise in a wide range of Education and Training programmes with more than 40 years experience in AET provision. With its headquarters in Pretoria, its training programmes reach adults and youth learners nationwide. All its training programmes are accredited with relevant training authorities. The training and management of community based educators throughout the country. Mission: To deliver a wide range of Education and Training programmes to educationally disadvantaged people by way of education centres, educator training, curriculum development and community outreach. Vision: To effect broad based black socio-economic development through high quality education and training programmes. Educational consultation across the spectrum from family literacy programmes, enhancing language and communication in primary school children, project management of large scale AET training interventions, teaching AET and other learning interventions to illiterate adults, AET and bridging training programmes for youth and adults.
