Clinical Psychology in Pretoria, Health in Pretoria, Health Services in Pretoria, Psychologist in Pretoria

“I am a Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist in private practice in Centurion.  I believe in the potential inherent in every person to explore their inner being and to find the courage to direct their lives and relationships in a meaningful way. Meaning and purpose lay at the cornerstone of our existence and without a sense of both we may find ourselves lost.”I have experience in working with a broad range of conditions including:AnxietyDepressionObsessive-Compulsive BehaviorRelationship Conflict / IssuesPosttraumatic Stress DisorderTrauma. I provide psychological services including psychotherapy and counselling for individuals and couples.

Individual psychotherapy aims to address the main psychology concerns of clients as they experience them in day-to-day living. Exploring a clients past experience and developing an understanding of how that impacts their present state of mind. To apply the clients inherent potential to successfully overcome difficulties and direct their lives in a meaningful way. The aim of marital therapy and couples counselling is to establish effective ways of dealing with conflicts in a relationship ( Couples Psychology) whilst developing certain principles to form the basis of the relationship. Adolescent psychology or teen therapy aims to help a teenager understand their experiences as they move through adolescence. Once they have developed a better understanding of what they are experiencing they can develop effective ways of coping with these experiences. The challenge is to develop a sense of identity and focus in life amidst the chaos often experienced during adolescence. Teen counselling provides a teenager the space to explore their feelings and thoughts. They can be given the necessary support and guidance to overcome difficulties they may face and develop new ways of coping with their problems. Their self image and interpersonal skills can improve in the process. Teenage suicides has reached alarming levels world wide. Often times teenage depression is mistaken for rebelliousness or oppositional behaviour. Teens can feel increasingly alone in their struggles to deal with the issues they are confronted with. If a teen mentions feeling depressed or has thoughts that life is not worth living and threatens to end their life it should always be taken seriously. Teens should receive the appropriate treatment for depression which is usually a combination of medication and psychotherapy. Warning Signs for Teen Depression Poor performance in school Withdrawal from friends and isolating themselves Sadness and hopelessness Lack of enthusiasm, energy or motivation Anger and rage Poor self-esteem or guilt Lack of concentration or forgetfulness Restlessness and agitation Irritability Changes in eating or sleeping patterns Substance abuse Problems with authority figures Suicidal thoughts or actions Lack of friends and supportive relationship.
