In 2006, 10 years after the TBCSA’s establishment, the organisation moved into a new era where different needs and approaches were implemented by the TBCSA Board to keep on par with the rapidly growing global trends and advances in technology. Collaboration with the National Department of Tourism to develop the Tourism BEE, then a first of its kind in the country. Collaboration with industry stakeholders to develop the National Service Excellence Strategy, which formed the basis of the Tourism Service Excellence Initiative. Strengthening industry relations with organisations such as the Regional Tourism Organisation of Southern Africa (RETOSA), the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). The Tourism Business Council of South Africa is the umbrella organisation representing organised business in the South African travel and tourism industry. Our aim is to ensure that our industry continues to play a constructive role in the country's development. The TSI coordinates support for crime victims in the tourism industry including emergency services, incident reporting, trauma counselling and logistical support for travellers. To strengthen tourist and trade confidence in destination South Africa as a safe place to visit or travel and operate within. To create structures and mechanisms through which the sector can effectively manage, coordinate communication, provide support and reduce the level of criminal and other related incidents against business and tourists. To provide one central platform where crime & other related incidents can be reported, and processed into relevant market information. To coordinate emergency & other relevant support for businesses and tourists. To guide and empower businesses in the industry to manage criminal incidents and/or other related incidents. Tourism Safety Initiative (TSI) is a tourism safety information portal and trade support programme. It is a private sector initiative and a vehicle through which we aim to address safety and security challenges. Report a crime incident, or incident of another nature, using our easy-to-use portal.
