e have named our transport and tour company after Ulysses, who was the king of Itchaca, called Odysseus in Greek. He was the mastermind behind the wooden horse used at the siege of Troy. After the taking of Troy, Ulysses set out for Itchaca, which, however, he did not reach for twenty years. During this time he experienced the travel adventures described in The Odyssey by Homer. At the 2012 Awards Ceremony, Ulysses became the first operator to be incorporated in the City’s Hall of Excellence. In 2014, the owner of the company has received a special certificate from SATSA (Southern Africa Tourism Service Association) in recognition of outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the tourism industry. In 2015, Ulysses Tours & Safaris won the award for the best established tour operator in Gauteng Province at the Provincial Awards and the best established tour operator in South Africa at the National Awards at the third Lilizela Tourism Awards. In 2016, Ulysses Tours again won the award as the Best Tour Operator in Gauteng Province, at the Lilizela Tourism Awards. Ulysses Tours has been independently rated in terms of BBBEE CODES OF GOOD PRACTICE and can be considered to be a LEVEL TWO contributor (BEE Procurement Recognition Level of 125%).
